| Customer Reviews: Average Rating: Rating : - Best of Andrew Bird I'm a fan of Andrew Bird. A big fan. In fact I have every album that he's recorded. And in spite of all that I find myself listening to this album again and again. For those who expect Andrew Bird to cling to the hot jazz genre he was in with the SNZ. It will be a disappointment. For those that know the Andrew bird of today with looping and whistling, again it is not the same genre. For those that claim it is trite "pop" I think you should listen to what pop music is again, because you're not going to find arrangements, writing, or lyrics like this in pop music. So some people have an uneasy feeling about the album, you are not alone. Andrew himself took a long time to come to grips with it. He's using the material again in new arrangements because it is so good. Let it grow on you. Pretty soon you'll be humming "my greenland" in the shower. Then if you can open your mind, step ahead to "mysterious production of eggs" or back in time to "thrills." Better yet explore the "fingerlings" series and if you still can find a small show that Andrew is playing and go watch live. He's the master showman and can hold your attention the entire show (not a small feat). Enjoy this as a document of a particular time in a artists life and expect nothing then you will enjoy the album for what it is. Thank you Mr. Bird. + See Full Customer Review | |
